The ceremony of Erica and Mike was held at First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, a church the bride attended since childhood. The reception followed, held outdoors on the lawn of Talbot Hall. Surrounded by mature live oak trees, it is bordered by the Lafayette River. “We wanted to create an atmosphere that was elegant, yet relaxed.” The hope was that guests would feel comfortable enough to take their shoes off; sit on a blanket to watch the sunset; and enjoy the grounds while children played on the lawn. Erica’s A line Duchesse satin gown with chiffon overlay was made by area seamstress Shilo Rust-Ryburn. Simple elegance offered just the right amount of detail, using a shirred chiffon band with beaded medallions as accent. A moment that moved was the first dance. “The sun was beginning to set over the water and one of our favorite songs was playing. We took the moment to enjoy one another and let all the excitement of the day sink in.” Their three-tiered square almond and lemon cake with buttercream frosting was decorated with fresh roses, gloriosa lilies and hydrangeas.
