Kimberly and Nicholas exchanged vows at The Historic First Baptist Church, a 200 year old Virginian landmark in Norfolk. The reception continued downtown at the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center on the Elizabeth River. Guests enjoyed panoramic views of the waterfront while dining in the Rotunda with its floor-to-ceiling glass windows. With love and simple elegance as inspiration, the room was decorated in a color palette of black, ivory and Bordeaux. “The gown had an elegant old Hollywood feel. After trying it on, I knew it was the perfect gown for the perfect day.” Kimberly’s ivory silk satin Jim Hjelm gown with body-slimming silhouette and A-line skirt dazzled with crystal accents. “One moment that moved me was walking down the aisle with my father and seeing Nicholas standing at the altar with a look of complete happiness and excitement! After seven years together, the fantasy of our wedding day became a reality.” In lieu of a wedding cake, Kimberly wanted a five-tiered display of cupcakes including molten chocolate, red velvet and vanilla bean with butter cream icing, surrounded by roses. The top tier included a giant cupcake for the newlyweds to cut. Kimberly surprised Nicholas, a music engineer, with a grooms’ cake in the form of a piece of musical studio equipment.
